„Saving Cats in China“ is a devoted group of volunteers united by compassion for feline welfare, who work solely to protect & care for vulnerable cats in need.
In China, where there are no nationwide animal protection laws (with an exception for selected wildlife species), where cats are stolen & bred for meat trade & are a primary target of torture rings (see my post „About Cat Torture Networks“), „Saving Cats in China“ has already helped thousands of cats since 2020, and is taking care of thousands more in four of their shelters that are led by Caizhen, Yaya, Wayne & Mr Mo:
Caizhen‘s Shelter
Caizhen’s shelter provides daily care, food & medical treatment for more than 400 cats & 50 dogs, offering safety, stability & a second chance to animals who would otherwise have nowhere to go.
Here’s a breakdown of monthly costs for Caizhen‘s shelter:
• 2.5 tons of cat litter: $2’400
• 600 kg cat food: $3’300
• 150 kg dog food: $1’200
• Rent/utilities: $600
• Routine vet/meds: $5’900
• Emergency vet: $7’500
• Full-/Part-time labour: $2’700
ca. 15‘000 USD per month — basic needs of just one of four shelters, excluding emergency rescue missions.

Henan Yaya‘s Cat Shelter
A major rescue on May 8, 2024 gave 600 cats, the survivors of a meat trade truck, a second chance at life.
390 from 600 cats have been spayed & neutered so far. Yaya keeps her cats separated by the diseases, as well as their nature: the timid kitties are kept apart from more playful ones.
Taking care of 600 cats takes a lot of effort, and although volunteers try their best to assist, it’s on Yaya to keep the shelter running — taking care of not only the cats, but also of the shelter maintenance, which includes tremendous physical labour.

Wayne‘s Shelter
Wayne is a dedicated independent rescuer who can often be found on the front lines, saving cats from the illegal meat trade & from dangerous locations such as the Qingyuan Reservoir.
His rescue work began in 2022 at Qingyuan Reservoir, where cats rescued from the meat trade by monks were later released into an area with no shelter or access to food. Witnessing their suffering, Wayne stepped in to provide care & safety.
Today, Wayne’s small shelter is caring for over 130 cats, all rescued from severe cruelty & neglect. Ongoing donor support is essential to provide food, medical care & a safe environment for the cats who depend on him every day.
Mr Mo‘s Shelter
Mr Mo is a committed cat rescuer based in Guangxi, China, working under extremely challenging conditions to save cats from abuse & the illegal meat trade. He rescued 65 cats from the Ximen vegetable market in Guilin — an area widely known for ongoing cat meat trafficking.
Operating in a remote location with very limited volunteer support, Mr Mo often works alone, sacrificing sleep to feed, clean & care for the cats in his protection.

If you feel called to help „Saving Cats in China“, here are a few options:
- Donations to Caizhen, Wayne & Mr Mo: PayPal @SaveCatsInChina
- Donations to Yaya: PayPal paavilaineneeva@gmail.com
- Subscribe to @savingcatsinchina content on Instagram for only $5/month
- Consider adopting their cats & dogs from overseas, ideally Europe or Canada. China is not safe for them. The risk is too high that the once rescued animals might end up in the hands of torturers, who frequent adoption events & use them to get their supply of cats.
