Every time you buy something “Made in China”, you contribute to legal torture of cats.
As private citizens outside China, there are only a few tools we can use to actively speak up against legal cat torture in China.
One of them is boycott & buycott.
With Halloween & Christmas coming up, followed by Easter — holiday seasons that are tied to massive amounts of decorations & presents — we have to make smart purchasing decisions.
I understand that economy in our countries is in drains & surrounding ourselves with glittering decorum might help keep the festive spirit alive for a moment. However, every time you make a choice to buy something manufactured in the country where torture of companion animals remains unpunished, you fuel the torture of thousands of Cow Cats & Wangwangs.
It’s not just seasonal decorations. It’s mundane things like makeup brushes. Chinese makeup brushes are exported globally & account for the vast majority of the world’s supply. Many of them are made with cat hair.
As private citizens we can cripple a major global trading partner — if we choose to do so collectively, and stick to it.
Boycott: because China is deeply integrated into global supply chains, a 100% boycott is exceptionally difficult, but you can significantly reduce your financial footprint through strategic choices. To begin with, choose products that are not manufactured in China. Don’t be misled by labels like “Designed in…”
Buycott: support domestic manufacturing, or manufacturing outside China.
❌ No more Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, or OnePlus.
❌ No more Temu, Shein, AliExpress, or TikTok Shop.
❌ Avoid “Product of China” labels on foods & vitamins. Food supply chains are easier to localize than electronics.
✅ Support domestic manufacturing.
✅ Buy from “sino-alternative” tech hubs: choose brands that intentionally manufacture or assemble their high-end goods in countries like Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, or Vietnam (e.g., specific lines of Samsung, Sony, or ASUS devices).
We have no political influence on China.
But we as global consumers have a hell of an economic wand. Let’s use it against cat torture in China.
